Latvians pickle, salt, stew, and jam just about everything that grows in a garden or a forest. But these aren’t just pantry staples. They’re stories, habits, survival tactics passed down the generations with love, care, and diligence. They could also be the perfect Latvian personality test. Scroll to the jar that’s most like you – salty and pickled, sweet and jammy, or something that needs a category of its own.

Salty & Pickled

Pickled cucumber – You might look basic at first glance, but you’re anything but. You’ve got the fierceness of vinegar, the gourmet nuance of home-grown herbs, and the kind of adaptability most can only dream of. You go, pickles!

Lightly salted cucumber – The hippie half-brother of pickles. All about vibes, freshness, and going with the flow. Leave you too long and you’ll turn funky – but no one doubts your place among Latvian classics. New baby potatoes with mushroom sauce say hi.

Sauerkraut – The Latvian vintage. You’ll probably never make it to Vogue, but you’ve got something better: durability, simplicity, and the rare ability to be genuinely good for people. You age well – because you’re full of substance. And that’s something to be proud of.

Pickled mushrooms – You might not be for everyone, but you’re oddly popular in Latvia. A living symbol of one of the nation’s most enduring obsessions, you’re earthy, intense, and not easily forgotten. You have nothing to fear: someone will always want you at their table.

Jellied tomatoes – You defy definition in the best way. Sweet, sharp, and full of unexpected layers, you’re hard to pin down but impossible to ignore. Some say snack, some say side dish, some say main character energy. You don’t care. You just show up and make it work.

Pickled beets – A true superstar of Latvian daily life. Sweet and grounded, yet bold and unapologetically colorful, you never fade into the background. You might even be part of a Baltic rivalry (codename: Cold Soup War).

Sweet & Jammy

Apple compote – The sweet aunt of the humble apple. Always comforting, always reliable, and quietly essential, you never demand attention, but everyone relaxes when you’re around. Honestly, you’re a treat!

Strawberry jam – You carry the gentle hug of a summer afternoon and the simple pleasure of bare feet in grass. You and your sister, wild strawberry jam, are straightforward, joyful, impossible to hate, and don’t need hidden drama to be noticed.

Cherry compote – Without you, plenty of things would be bland. But you’re not just the cherry on top – you’re the cherry in the middle. Tangy, fun, and stylish, you turn plain desserts into a celebration, yet you’re perfectly content shining on your own as well.

Raspberry jam – You’re the friend who brings drama to the group chat – and somehow makes everyone laugh about it later. Sweet and sharp in equal measure, you liven up even the plainest company. Sure, you can be a bit much sometimes. but life would be dull without you.

Blueberry jam – Dark, subtle, and quietly brilliant, you’re the introvert everyone trusts to keep things steady. You don’t need to raise your voice to be noticed – your calm depth is enough. Like a late-summer walk in the forest, you make people breathe easier just by being there.

Cranberry jam – Sharp, lively, and full of character, you’re the one who cuts through the dull moments and makes them memorable. Sweet and sour in perfect balance, you never fade into the background – you stick around, in the best possible way. A true classic, and you know it.

Lingonberry–apple jam – A true Latvian classic. You balance tart and sweet like it’s second nature, bringing harmony where others clash. Reliable, adaptable, and quietly confident, you make everything around you taste a little more complete.

Cloudberry jam – Rare, golden, and rightfully proud of it. But who can blame you! Only the most enthusiastic Latvian foragers get to you. You might as well be high maintenance, but we say it’s totally worth it.

Wild Card

Pickled pumpkin – You, my friend, are something truly special – special enough to deserve a season of your own. Sweet and spicy, yet perfectly at home beside salty dishes, you thrive on contradiction and delicate nuance. And if this really were a test, you’d always be the “other” option.

So, which jar sounds most like you?
