In honor of the first Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Netherlands present a new type of tulip as a gift to Latvia.

The Netherlands Embassy to Latvia, holding a Tulip Day,  also introduces a seminar at the Latvian National Library. The seminar includes a discussion by crop farmers and horticulturists from Latvia and the Netherlands on historical and modern tendencies in the cultivation of tulips.

A tulip ceremony to officialy name the new cultivar is held by the Latvian Foreign Ministry's Parliamentary Secretary Zanda Kalniņa-Lukašēvica.

On October 15, 2014,  the Dutch Embassy in Latvia presented 17,000 tulips as a gift on the occasion of the country's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The tulips were planted near the Latvian National Library.
