Brīvības piemineklis - the Freedom Monument - is one of the most important landmarks and symbols of Latvian independence and statehood. It celebrated its 80th anniversary last year.

The inscription „Tēvzemei un brīvībai” means „For Fatherland and Freedom”. The sculptural reliefs at its base depict important moments in Latvia’s history, while the woman at the top symbolises Latvia’s freedom and sovereignty. She holds aloft three stars indicative of the three historical districts of Latvia.
