Lawyer stripped of Latvian state award over Soviet-era sentences

The Chapter of Orders, the body responsible for handing out state awards in Latvia, has decided to revoke the Cross of Recognition that was awarded to lawyer Uldis Krastiņš, the LETA newswire reports. Krastiņš was awarded the Order of the Cross of Recognition, Fourth Class, on October 13, 2010.

Ogre mayor Helmanis injured in Ukraine

Egils Helmanis (National Union), the chairman of the Ogre municipal council, was wounded in Ukraine as a result of Russian shelling, Patriks Grīva, a spokesman for the municipality, told LSM.lv.
