The Saeima Presidium decided that Presidential elections will take place on Wednesday, June 3 at 10 a.m.
As the first presidential candidate, who was put forward by several deputies of the Alliance of the Regions of Latvia, is MP Mārtiņš Bondars. Bondars has confirmed in writing that he agrees to the nomination.
The coalition had previously failed to agree on one joint presidential candidate. VL-TB/LNNK decided to nominate Levits, whereas Greens/Farmers put forward Raimonds Vējonis, urging other MPs to vote for him.
Other residential candidates need to be officially nominated from May 19 until May 24.
Defense Minister Raimonds Vējonis, legal expert Egils Levits, and MP Sergejs Dolgopolovs are currently still planning to officially run for the president.
