The Latvian Lielais Kristaps film ceremony took place on October 12, this year, and the main prizes went to the Renārs Vimba feature film “Mellow Mud” and Vitaly Mansky’s “Under the Sun.”
Three films competed for the Best Feature Film Award – Laila Pakalniņa’s “Dawn,” “Mellow Mud,” and Dāvis Sīmanis’ “Exiled,” with “Mellow Mud” winning the prize (its title in Latvian is “Es esmu šeit,” or “I Am Here”).
Ulrich Matthes won the Best Actor award for his role in “Exiled,” while the Best Actress award went to Elīna Vaska for her performance in “Mellow Mud.” Pakalniņa won the Best Director trophy, while Mansky was honoured as the best documentary film director. Kārlis Vītols’ “Minotaur” was named Best Animated Film, while Madara Dišlere’s “Gardener” took home the prize for Best Short Film. The Best Short Documentary Award went to Andriana Roze’s “Gentlemen of Rīga,” while Liene Laviņa-Kalnaella won the Best debut award for “Till the End of the Scene.”
The Lielais Kristaps awards were first presented in 1977, and this was the 28th annual event.
