In 2016, the amount of users of e-services has surpassed the average of EU: in Latvia, 36% of total internet users have used the e-services of state or public institutions. EU average is 32%.
Free wifi is available in more than 800 public libraries. In total, there are more than 4300 free wifi access points in Latvia. A 2014 and 2015 study on the availability of wireless internet in the EU countries showed that Riga is Europe’s capital of free WiFi.
Thanks to the new Internet of Things network, Riga, Latvia’s capital, is becoming one of the smartest cities in Europe.
Latvia is hungry for speedy and efficient communication opportunities: Latvia has the second-highest ranking in 4G penetration in Europe. In 2019, Latvia became one of the first countries worldwide to introduce the 5G network coverage.
