“The Nightingale” by Uģis Prauliņš Receives Two Grammy Nominations
Composition “The Nightingale” by Latvian composer Uģis Prauliņš, included in a CD by the same name, has received two Grammy nominations.
It is put forward as the Best Contemporary Classical Composition and it has also earned the nomination of Best Choral Performance for the Danish National Vocal Ensemble.
In the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category Prauliņš’s “Nightingale” will face competing works by Stephen Hartke, Tania León, Einojuhani Rautavaara and the Pulitzer Prize in Music winning Steven Stucky.
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 10, 2013, at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
As reported, the CD „Nightingale by Danish label „OUR Recordings” won the prestigious German „Echo Klassik” award in the category „World Premiere Recording of the Year” this July.
„Nightingale” by Prauliņš is a 27-minute opus for a 20-singer chorus. It is based on themes of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales.
