The "Eurovision" Latvian National Finals saw a surprise victory by the new and fresh pop group "Aarzemnieki" and their carefree song "Cake to Bake".
The group was established in recent years and the current members only came together in 2013. The lead singer, a German national, is Jöran Steinhauer. Other members are pianist Guntis Veilands, violinist Katrīna Dimanta and drummer Raitis Viļumovs.
The group managed to squeak by two other Latvian singers far more superior in terms of audience and on-stage experience, managing to take first place in the final vote.
Thus "Cake to Bake" will be Latvia's entry this coming May at "Eurovision 2014" in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Jöran calls famous Latvian band “Brainstorm” his main inspiration and reason for him choosing Latvia as his second home. He first discovered the band while listening to the Eurovision song contest in 2000 while “Brainstorm” performed its "My star".
The semi-finals contest will be held on May 6 and 8, the final will take place on May 10. “Aarzemnieki” will perform on May 6. This year will mark the 59th Eurovision show with 37 countries participating.
